Pro- 164 and Radio Shack Programming Cable

I can't get my pro- 164 to work with the only Pragramming Cable Radio Shack has. I was wondering what I am doing wrong I am following all the directions and nothing works.

Also I am trying to program it but are having loads of trouble, I am new to the scanner world and don't know anything.

I have gotten my baby monitor fequency programmed and saved... that is my biggest milestone

First, don't use the cable extension that converts the cable from a stereo connector to a Mono connector. That won't work with this scanner. Second, look in your computer's device manager under the Ports section to see which port the cable is operating on and use that.
