I have a Pro 106 that was having a problem recieving (due to antenna connection) While messing around with it I took the insides of a Pro 164, who's screen had played out and put it inside the 106. Now the radio recieves fine, all that it doesn't seem to do is recieve digital signals! Has anyone ever done this or know how this is possible?

I don't think the PRO 164 supports digital modes. Since you put the guts of the 164, which are responsible for decoding the signals, the result is basically a PRO 106 with the capabilities of the PRO 164.

Yea, same radio less the digital vocoder. They likely used the same components to save money. The BCD996T and 15 are the same except the digital decoding capability. It's becoming common to use the same form factor with different levels of capability built in.

On another note, nice to know thay are basically the same. btw I had the same problem with the antenna connection on my 106. You should talk to N!SQB, maybe he can hook you up. he fixed my 106 right up

As a retired Radio Shack service technician, the intermixing of of scanner logic and linear pc boards is
bad practice. You are very lucky that pc boards had a similar design or you might have burnt up the $250
Pro-106 logic pc board.

Hmm old thread I know, but how exactly did you bolt the 164 guts in the 106 body ?
The speaker and keypad are 180 degrees opposite on those 2 scanner case bodies !
Who would want a scanner with a non-functioning keypad, even LCD's don't line up !
Are you maybe saying that you just swapped the smaller daughter board assembly
from the 164 and plugged it into the 106's logic board with it keypad and LCD in tact ?
