Im trying to do my best on programming my PRO-164. I used the pro-97 programming shortcut located here http://wiki.radioreference.com/index.php/Programming_Shortcut_Pro-97. I programmed in my control freq's and it seems like im picking up all the talkgroups. Im pretty happy to have just that. I also followed the instructions on that page on how to program the talkgroup IDs and the text tags. When my scanner is scanning, it only shows the freq that it picked it up on and some other stuff...no tags or ID numbers. How do I get these working?? Here is my local ID list http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?sid=91

I just got a Pro-163 base this past weekend. I also own a 97. Using the software for both radios. Do you have the USB programming cable? Part # 20-047 and Win97? the cable and software make it easy t do the programming. Do you have the bank in MOT mode? Do you have the CC's in MOT mode? If so, then you can enter the TGID's by pushing the Func button then the Trunk button. This gets you into the TG list area. You input the TG #'s and press enter. Use the text key to get you to the alphatags. You will see on the keypad the letters above the number keys. They are programmed by pressing the number key for the letter, then the corresponding number key; i.e.: for the letter A you push 2 then 1, the letter blinks and is saved, the letter L: number key 5 then 3. The Win97 is free for a thirty day trial, and the cable is $32. Wise investment for programming the radio. Wouldn't be without it. Don Starr writes good stuff and monitors the RS forum to help those who get tripped up using it.
Let me know if this helps in the programming of your new radio. We all make mistakes in the beginning. The best way to learn:))

I also notice, that your county will be joining the Michigan State system which is digital P-25 in December. You may want to put away money for a new digital scanner for when that happens.

You may also want to checkout the Easier To Read Manual http://myweb.cableone.net/marksscanners/97/97.html and make sure all the steps in the Shortcuts were followed.
If it's not showing either the TGIDs or Text Tags you put in it's not programmed for trunking correctly.
That's a fairly large system so getting the USB Cable, Win97 and the Premium Subscription will make things a whole lot easier and faster.
