Pro-164 scratchy squelch

When I turn the squelch knob it make scratchy sounds. Loose wire? Normal?

I do hear the comms well though. But it never used to do that sound before

Sounds like it is dirty.Buy some tuner cleaner to clean it.It comes in a spray can .Radio Shack should have it .I`v cleaned a few on my scanners.

Normal for this scanner. Contact cleaner will fix it right up

So i will need to open the scanner or spray on the SQ knob itself?

You might be able to remove the knob and "drizzle" the cleaner down the shaft but normally you would spray the cleaner directly into the potentiometer. This would require opening the case and maybe removing the circuit board to get to the pot.
