For some reason when in scan mode my scanner can only listen to FD although it is programed for all trunked systems in Sacramento, but in Manual mode I can hear PD and all others. I may have hit a button but I don't know. Can someone please help me in this dilemma.

Welcome to RadioReference.com, I see this is your first post.

The PRO-164 is the same scanner as the PSR-300, which I have. I am in the Sacramento area and listen 24/7, so I understand these issues. The first thing I want to point out is that the two fire dispatch channels (A1 & B1) are available as conventional VHF channels as well as TalkGroups (TGs) on the Sacramento trunked system (SRRCS). You can be in MAN mode stopped on a conventional channel, but you cannot be in in MAN mode to trunk track a TG.

There are "two sites" for the SRRCS (physically there are several, but I am referring to two distinct set of frequencies used). I have the city site programmed in one bank and the county site programmed in another. I typically only scan one site, because most of what I want to hear is simulcast on both sites.

You only need to program the 4 control channel frequencies for each site, not all of them. Each frequency MUST be set to MO. You MUST "scan" these frequencies to properly pick up TGs and track them. If you are in MAN mode on one of the TRS frequencies, you will just hear a snipit of a conversation -- whatever happens to be using that frequency at the moment.

To "limit" what you are receiving, set the associated bank to CLOSED. If the bank is open you will receive traffic for all TGs. When scanning with the bank closed you need to have the TGs you want programmed, the associated sub-group turned on, and the TG not locked out.

The best way to program these scanners is to use software and a USB cable. I use WIN97 (starrsoft.com), but there are a couple of other good programs. Don't use ScanCat(Lite) as it does not work correctly.

If I have not addressed your specific problem, can you explain what is happening (or not happening)? Good luck and again, welcome.
