A few pointers for you:
  • Read the owner's manual.
  • Search around on this site for the answers to your questions and other information.
  • Read the material provided to you when you signed up for this site.
  • Premium subscribers get no extra privileges in the forums; indeed the forums are not the main concern of this site.
  • Don't start out on a bad footing with the moderators; keep your language inoffensive and clean.

Being a premium subscriber doesn't mean you DO not have to also read the manual??

How about pointing him in the right direction (besides reading the manual)? Let's not forget he's new. We've all been there. 'nuff said.

wc, insofar as software goes, there are 3 popular packages - Win500, PSRedit500 and ARC500. All 3 can download data from the database, seeing as you have purchased a subscription. They are all linked from this article in our wiki (anything in blue or underlined here is a link of one kind or another)

Object Oriented Scanner Software - The RadioReference Wiki

As the RS models (I assume you have either the PRO-197 or 106 and typoed the name) doesn't come with their own USB connection you will need to purchase one. There are 2 links on this page for that.

Also please place a location in your profile (county/state is fine). That way we know which forum(s) to point you to for help. We have a forum for all states, and we also have a pretty decent list of Yahoo scanning groups by state in our wiki

Welcome. You will really enjoy the 197 (?) but to get the most out of it IMO the software is a must. Any of the three mentioned above will work great and allow you to import freqs to your scanner if you have the correct cable. Do yourself a favor and just buy the RS cable, rather than trying to kludge or homebrew one. All three of the programs have 30 day trials, so you can see which one suits you best. They're all great and do mostly the same things, but the look and feel, and the workflow, is a little different.

Welcome to the jungle!

If you're referring to the PRO-197, there are three different software choices to consider:

PSREdit-500
PSREdit - Configuration Editors for the new GRE line of scanners

WIN-500
Win500: PSR-500, PSR-600, PRO-106, PRO-197 Scanner Software for Data Management, Monitoring, and Control

ARC500
Software for Uniden Radioshack GRE GRECOM AOR police scanner software PRO-97 PRO-96 PRO-2096 PRO-106 PRO-197 PRO-164 PRO-160 PRO-162 psr500 psr600 psr300 psr400 psr100 psr200 BCD996T BCT15 BC246T UBC800XLT UBC785XLT PRO-433 PRO-528 BCD396T PRO-2051 P

You're also going to need a programming cable:
USB Scanner Programming Cable - RadioShack.com

PSREdit-500 was my choice. You can try them all, free for 30-days before purchasing.

Each of these packages has an import option that you can explore once it's loaded. It's a menu driven, pick'n'choose process, so you should be able to find your way around. You won't break anything by trying it. If you still need help after getting that far, lets us know.

I'm assuming Bucks county PA. According to the DB your twp is patrolled by Sheriff deputies and doesn't have an established PD. As for the state the info is there but you can't monitor it.
