Pro 197 and monitoring Va. Beach Digital

To date I have been frustrated trying to get the 197 to sound clear, and to catch all transmissions. I have checked and read the RS forum and have tried many of the suggestions. Obviously I am still not happy.

I am looking for anyone in the area to tell me the setting they have, and if they are happy with the reception, clarity, and reliability to catch all transmissions.

I have a discone in the attic, with a long coax run, but having better reception with the RS 800 rubber duckie

Possibly this is as good as it gets, I don't know.

VA Beach P-25 System

Use the antenna that came with the PRO-197. Your antenna is over loading tha front end of the 197.

I am useing A PRO-197 And is receive all ok. I am VA Beach.

Maybe it's not your 197, but possibly the system or even your location?
Try taking your 197 to a friend's house and listen to see if there's a difference?

My location, I admit, is not the best. I am sitting at sea level and at the fringe of their coverage area.
However when the system was analog it was just fine.
I do see the T flickering on and off and the signal strength going up and down when scanning, but holds study when receiving. Sometimes it will hold on a talk group but no audio.

Am currently trying the stock antenna, and will relocate it tomorrow to another location.

The next time it locks on a digital talkgroup, try using the analyze feature to see the percentage of signal? If it's not showing at least 85% then digital reception will be poor.
You can use that feature to find a "sweet spot" for your 197 !

If I am doing this correctly (scanner scaning) TSYS > Analyze then scroll up to locate data channel.
If that is it I am reading 98%

Does you PRO197 have the ability to let you know if it's a MDT transmission at the time when it locks up. I know when my XT stops on a channel on my local P25 and SmartZone systems, that the majority of the time DATA is on the bottem right, which tells me it's a MDT transmission. Is it possible that the lock-ups could be that?

PRO197 owners can you clarify that for me? Thanks in advance!

Without being too precise, where are you? A few years ago someone at the north end was having problems with the analog; with some tweaking he was able to fix his problem. No, I don't remember how.
