I was at a certain pawn shop today, and I asked if they had any p25 scanners coming or going. He pulls out a nice shiny Pro 197-alone.. No attatchments.. I says " how much? ".. He (this is good) says I'll take $399.00.''. I says "really? Ebays cheaper." He then dropped his price to $175.00.. I though- this is where they clean out certain scanners to flood the market of newer-other brands... I mean, theres gotta be alot out there waiting to be bought at 2nd hand places. I wish I had a dime for every Pro197 that is on sale now-this moment..

Out of curiosity, what software for the 197 costs $50? $50 for the cable:confused:

I got my cable from the shack + cd..Not only did the sales rep not know about it, he had no airwave knowlege at all. I paid $38.00, and regret it. I dont like the arc500---I do the fast finger program gig.

Never put much faith into a pawn shop's asking prices. They have... at most... about 25% of their listed asking price invested in that scanner. They are still making decent profit even at $175.

Ebay has killed the old "mom and pop" pawn shop mentality where they would sit on their high priced inventory for years and consider their stuff better than gold. Most pawn shops today will at least sell at Ebay prices... and many will cut you a deal below Ebay.

I recently bought a home theater projector from a pawn shop. They had it priced at $400 and I asked them to give me their absolute "rock bottom" price on it. They shot back $125 which probably means they had $100 or less invested in it. I got a great deal since that projector commonly sells on Ebay for around $300 and couldn't be happier.

I've lost count of how many scanners I've bought at pawn shops over the years. I've never paid anywhere near asking prices and have hauled home some killer scanner deals. Pawn shops are awesome places to shop for used scanners.
