I have posted this before, but there were thoughts of antenna, cable, amplifier issues that my enter into the diagnosis.

My 197 is now connected to a Scantenna mounted on my roof. Not as high as I would like, but better than the attic. There is no amplifier or any other attachment between the antenna and 197. I now show 5 bars on the Virginia Beach Fire/EMS system. Overlay Regional InterOperability Network (ORION) Trunking System, Various, Virginia - Scanner Frequencies

With full bars showing the scanner, several times a day, goes deaf. Listening in on the system through Live Audio, the system is transmitting just fine. I must turn the 197 off, and then on to restore audio. Nothing moves or touches the radio between these "outages".

At the same time I am scanning Va. State System Virginia Statewide Agencies Radio System (STARS) Trunking System, Statewide, Virginia - Scanner Frequencies and the unit is receiving as it should. It is also showing 5 bars.

Anyone have a direction I should go to find out what is causing this?

Thanks

I'm everywhere Focker!
Which site are you listening to? If you are only listening to 1 site the traffic you want to hear may not be on that site all the time. Try setting "Multi-Site" to "Stat" and "Check All CC" and see what happens. Just a thought.

Signal overload ? Have you tried experimenting with the attenuator on/off ?

Wirelessly posted (Moto Droid Bionic: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10_6_3; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.16 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0 Safari/533.16)

Just a WAG, but if you have had the -197 more than a year have you updated the ROM with the latest update from the RS support page? HTH.

It has been a while since I addressed this issue.
I have tried all the suggestions listed above.

I have connected a 197 and a 106 to the same antenna. Both are programmed with the same data file.
Using Broadcastify as the norm here is what I am seeing/hearing.
After some time, and this time varies immensely, both scanners will stop receiving. Still showing full bars, and the "T" I have three talk groups selected.
Should I deselect any one talk group and immediately reselect it the scanner will start receiving, while the one I did not touch is still deaf.
Hmmmmmmmmm??
