Hello Mike, yeah you said it, it’s something simple 😉 : there are no banks of channels activated : all the dots you see on screen show that.

Push at least one number representing a bank of frequencies you have programmed in the scanner and the corresponding number should replace one of the dots, showing that this bank is now active in the scanning process.

‘Hope this helps !

My Pro 97 is similar, so you should be able to enable/disable the banks in scan mode by simply pressing the numerical keys 0 -9.

The trunked system is setup correctly, but you have no talkgroups or conventional frequencies to scan. You will not be able to receive the County Sheriff on the trunked system. If you look in the Mode column in the database, "T" (TDMA) is P25 Phase 2 which your scanner cannot decode. You should be able to receive Fire/EMS which is P25 Phase 1 ("D" in Mode column) unless simulcast distortion is a problem at your location. Four of the BOE conventional frequencies are DMR which your scanner cannot decode.

You will need a scanner which is P25 Phase 2 capable. I would avoid the Whistler scanners which are plagued by simulcast distortion problems. The Uniden scanners are better but simulcast can still be a problem depending upon your location. For base/mobile scanners, your choice is the Uniden BCD996P2, BCD536HP, or SDS200. The BCD536HP handles simulcast slightly better than the BCD996P2. For the best results, I recommend the SDS100 handheld and SDS200 base/mobile. They are the only scanners that are specifically designed to receive simulcast sites. The SDS100 and SDS200 are the only scanners that will reliably receive my local Baltimore County simulcast system. All other scanners fail miserably and I have tried them all. The Unication G4 and G5 pagers are also excellent with simulcast sites but can scan only one system and one site at a time. If you purchase anything other than the SDS scanners or Unication pagers, make sure that the dealer has a good return policy.

Thank you for your suggestions. But pricey but it doesn't surprise me. I was thinking about $550 so I wasn't far off.

Thank you everyone for your help, time and knowledge. I appreciate it and I am grateful

Sdr or sds? Maybe I'm missing something lol
The SDS series (SDS100 & SDS200) are Uniden scanners that can deal with simulcast systems.

SDR (Software Defined Radio) refers to the dongles that can be used, with a PC, to monitor & analyze many types of radio systems. There are several downloadable software programs that can be used, Some are free, a few have a fairly low cost, The dongles themselves are relatively inexpensive, much less cost than buying a high-end scanner. The downside is that, since these require a PC (they are not a stand-alone product like most scanners are), the use of a PC with these means it's more useful when used at a fixed location. That's not something that is readily portable. There is a forum specific to using the SDR devices.

There are also the Unication pagers, as suggested in an earlier post. I don't have one, but the comments are generally very positive as to how well these work. But the downside is that you are limited to monitoring one site, with up to 64 talkgroups. You can program additional sites, and additional scan lists, You can change sites & lists, but only monitor a single site and scanlist at a time.

Check out the P25RX / P25RX-II / Micro P25RX from BlueTail Technologies: BlueTail Technlogies

I've had my P25RX-II for about two-and-a-half years and it works flawlessly for my county's P25 Phase II system... sounds just as good as the APX7000s our PD and FD use. You can monitor more than one system in roaming mode, and a version of the operating software also allows conventional (FM, AM, DMR) monitoring/scanning too.

I'm sure he can find a much cheaper alternative to the $400+ price of the Bluetail. A simple quality SDR (such as Nooelec brand) + Lifetime DSD+ Fastlane software is only about $75 or less, add an additional SDR for band coverage and it is still under $125.

This is a lot to digest when im such a newbie. I need a scanner for phase 2 p25 obviously. Im willing to try and program,i used psredit for my old 197. Not sure its compatable but thats ok if it isnt. Sds 200 and 100 are $600 plus. Thats a heap to throw down.
