I have never used a PRO-197 so I probably can't answer specific questions about it or software packages that work with it. Recently I have only used Uniden scanners and FreeSCAN software.
There is a wiki article on the PRO-197 here Pro-197 - The RadioReference Wiki

What programming software do you have?
Do you know how to use the RadioReference Database?
If you are a premium subscriber certain software can download directly from the database.
You can also copy and paste from the databse or other sources to certain software.

Oh, and I hope you didn't buy that scanner and expect to be able to listen to the City of Wichita Falls departments. In case you did not know, the police and fire dept. use an EDACS ProVoice digital trunked system and most of the public works departments use NEXEDGE repeaters. Neither can be monitored on a Pro-197 or any other scanner.
Occasionally you will hear stuff in analog mode on the trunked system but the only regular user with an analog talkgroup is Facility Maintenance.

The only digital stuff you will be able to hear are the ones that use unencrypted P25 like DPS, Archer County, and the Sheppard AFB trunked system. The digital channels used by Wichita County SO are encrypted.

While the HP-1 is a good scanner, it is not going to hear any more than the 197 would have heard.

See my comments in this post. You would need an SMA to BNC adapter; there's a link for one source in that post, but there are other sources. Several threads have discussed this in the Uniden forum).

For the mag mount antenna, I use this one. It's also available from Universal. Both sellers have this with an SMA connector (which is what's on the HP-1) as well as BNC. I use the BNC version, as I leave the SMA->BNC adapter on the scanner. If I'm in an area where it's mostly Vhf-high. like most of the counties in the Possum Kingdom area, I often use RH77CA. However, the Radio Shack 800MHz is a better choice for a trunked system such as Wichita Falls.
