Hello everyone,

I am a scanner newbie. Just got a pro-197 for xmas. I need help programming. I am so frustrated because I dont understand all the technical mumbo jumbo in the manual. I also got the disc from RS with the cable and I thought I could easily do it, but guess not. If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it.

I only want a handful of channels but I cant figure out how to do it.

Are you involved with Fire/EMS/PD with the county? Amateur Radio perhaps? If you are, please send me a PM and I'll be more than happy to assist you with your programming; otherwise, I would suggest purchasing an application such as PSREdit to program this scanner as it's easier than the keyboard methods. It can be purchased from PSREdit - Configuration Editors for the new GRE line of scanners

I would offer more assistance; however, there are many criminals out here looking to have radios programmed to listen to the police, and in this day and age, it's really tough to tell them apart. Many of these idiots are costing us law abiding citizens the right to listen and enjoy the scanner hobby and for that reason, we all must remain cautious of who we provide assistance too over the internet...

Very few of those channels are used for anything in the county... How about telling us what you'd like to hear? Or look at the Database above and go to the county page.

Everyone you just mentioned there has moved over to the Livingston County Simulcast of the MPSCS 800mhz digital system. Although there are a few that still patch to the old VHF/UHF freqs, you would be much better off programing the simulcast system in there. The easiest way to do that is to get some kind of programing software. I highly recommend the psredit program. I use that myself. It comes with a 30 day free trial period. You can find it here... Thank you all so much for your help, I really appreciate it. I have decided to return it and buy the new Uniden Home Patrol scanner. Any comments or suggsestions on this unit? Sounds pretty easy which is more up my alley!

Thanks again!
