Does this make any sense? I was working on the "objects" in my PSR 600 (= Pro 197) this weekend. The scanner "crashed" a couple of times. I didn't think much about that, but afterwards I think the scanner (which definitely still scans and receives) seems less sensitive on the MA state police trunking system. I can't prove that, but it is my impression. Has anyone seen anything like this, or does anyone have a plausible theory?

What I'm planning to do, just to eliminate some variables, is reflash the CPU and then reflash the DSP, then upload the scan objects again and see what happens....

Here's a thought - attenuator got turned on by accident? Been there, done that with my 396...73 Mike

I concur with the thought.

I found the attenuator box checked on a TSYS in one program used in my Pro-106. I saw it on Win500.
Don't know how that box got checked because it wasn't wanted.

So upload scanner to the s/w and examine for wrong settings.

Very interesting. I'll check the settings before I upload the scan objects file to the scanner. That could easily be the issue - thank you!

Just for utter and perfect clarity, the "G" (global) can be showing but the attenuator is not on unless the "A" shows as well, correct? None of the objects have the ATT set and it's not turned on globally. I still think rx is not what I was seeing over the weekend but it's hard to tell.

That's how I understand it.
Check antenna, antenna location and perhaps whether you changed control freqs before/after.
But I'm out of ideas after that.

For what it's worth, it isn't actually deaf on 800mHz; the original question was due to reception being down but not dead. Reception (with an 800mHz antenna) on the local PD and FD bands (primarily conventional 150 and 480 -ish mHz) is excellent and definitely unchanged. Maybe the lower amount of traffic received on the 800mHz trunked SP system is just because...there's less traffic? Dunno. I have come to the conclusion that the radio's probably fine.

I've had times where I thought my radio was dead because the Colo State Patrol had no units out so nothing to hear. They were saving up labor hours for a big DUI push for an upcoming weekend (my conclusion). It happens.

Hi NW0U
I got my PSR-600 at 2.30 this afternoon, at 12.30 am i finally got it to talk. I live in western CO, site 234 is within view. I tried manual programming in just that site cc and a few delta co tg's all i could get was that i had full signal strength and no voice. Downloaded trial versions of Win500, arc500, PSedit500 (?) still same results. Also loaded in other 800/900 systems mot II and just changed freqs and talkgroups, still no luck.
I decided to try system type P25 auto and that worked, is that what you had to do for CO DTRS? The voice quality is not as clear as on BC796. On my BC796D I always used 800 Moto II with no problems. Now to figure out all those VScanner folders, I am driving to Indy in a few weeks.
Thanks for any hints...

I programmed using Win500 before anything manual and P25 Auto is the default when importing from RR so I never had an issue with the radio not working. Seems like kind of the obvious choice now, doesn't it?

I can program the radio manually now because I understand it well enough from having used Win500.
Had a real hard time understanding manual programming from the documentation.
