I just noticed that on my Pro-197 that I can see the signal bar all the way up but can't hear the talking on the primary channel of our local PD. I can hear this on my handheld Pro-95 and my brother has the exact same issue. I programmed both my 197 and his with Win500, so did I mess up some setting or does the 197 really have less reception than the handheld?

Thanks!

Is this VHF?

If so, I bet it is front end overload. I get it too because I'm near an FM broadcast station. I can't use my outdoor antenna without a filter. I had a ham radio diplexer that helped, but a dedicated filter is needed ASAP. At least I don't get the nasty images my Uniden Scanners get.

Yes, try turning on the Attenuator and see if that rectifies your problem. GRE made scanners are notorious for having very sensitive front-ends and being prone to overload from strong local signals.

800 MHZ Motorola Trunked System. I'm not sure why it's not a problem on the Pro-95 but it is on the Pro-197.

Ok, here's a dumb question. Is there an Attenuator control button in Win500? I thought I remembered seeing one but now that I'm actually looking for it I can't find it. I guess I'll do it the old fashioned way and just press the button? :)

Does it recognize the control channel and do you see TSYS on F2 if so press it and then press F3 Analyz and see what yoou hear you should hear digital. Other then that check the settings and make sure it is right for the system. If your 95 works I doubt you will have to ATT 800 mhz unless you did for the 95.

Ordinarily I would agree, but he is using an external antenna. I think the 106/197/500/600 have hotter front ends than the Pro-95 did. He didn't say if he was having the same problem using the stock antenna in the house. If he was, then it might not be overloading. If he was not, but is now on the external, then I would say that indicates it is overloading the front end. Even moreso if he reports that using the attenuator corrected the problem. Would be nice to clarify some of the circumstances.
