PRO-197 Signal Strength erratic

I have been using my Pro-197 for months now without issues. Today, the signal strength meter seems to be blinking somewhere between 1 and 3 bars without the S. Then it will go solid S and 5 bars for a few secoinds then off again. I typically have an S displayed and 4-5 bars constant. I have reseated the antenna and tried moving unit near a window to no avail. I had a signal issue once before but realized I had inadvertently hit the ATT button which basically weakened my signal to the point of receiving no broadcasts. Curious if there are any suggestions you can think of to help troubleshoot.

This is what it behaves like when it gets receiver overload, or "intermod". The frequencies you have programmed on vhf may need to have the attenuator (ATT) switched on.
This is a common issue with the pro-197 due to a very sensitive receiver.
