In a previous thread, I mentioned of a static problem I have been having with my Pro 197 on conventional frequencies. As of right now, my county has not made the switch to digital yet but of course will be in January.

Can I expect to have the same static problem on talkgroups, or is the problem specifically related to conventional freqs?

Thanks again for the help!

Your answer depends on a few things.
Do you have your attenuator ( ATT) turned on?
What antenna are you using?
Indoors or out?
Auto, fm or nfm?
Distance from transmitter?
Repeater or simplex?

As I mentioned in your previous thread the 197 appears to be prone to the selectivity problem mostly in the high band area. I have 2 transmitters less than a mile from me(can look at them out the window), a pager on high band 152.480 and AEP 800mz EDACS trunk system ( half mile a way). The AEP transmitter cause's no problem with my scanners on the MARCS sites which is 800mz systems. I would guess to say if your county goes to P25 800mz trunking then you probably be okay. Is your static on the High Band related Frequencies? If they use the same frequencies as they are now and just change over to P25 it can pose a problem.

The only way you'll hear static on a digital system is if there is some some type of bridge/gateway in place that ties in a analog source. If there is static on the analog source then it is likely it will get encoded into the digital output too.

The digital equivalent to analog static is just unintelligable digital noise.
