Purchased a Pro197 used off Craigslist on Thursday for $150.00. Purchased the programming cable from RS yesterday and updated the cpu to vers 2.0. The cable came with a 2-week trial of ARC500. I reset the radio so it was like the first time you would turn a new one on. All worked fine. Programmed the Collierville, TN Public service system using RR dtabase. Collierville is an LTR system. I couldn't get anything to receive on the radio. Went back to the software and put in about 15 frequencies that I used to listen to on my old scanner. This seemed very easy to do, Two of the frequencies I use are the Home channel for police and home channel for Fire. I put them all in as CONV freq and am able to monitor all without any problem. I was wondering why the trunked LTR system didn't work.

Very happy with the purchase so far. I was listening to an accident scene yesterday afternoon involving police, fire, and medical wing in Fayette county. That scene was about 30 miles north east from where I live. Interesting thing, I have no problem receiving to the east, south and north of my home for frequencies up to 30 miles away or so. I can get Germantown now and then which is about 12 miles west and I can't get anything out of Memphis which is closer to 20 plus miles west. I assume my problems to the west must have something to due with terrain or buildings.

That seems to be pretty far away (30 miles) Are you using an outdoor antenna on your scanner, if not, what kind?

Very much so especially at that range. Just like here in western San Francisco, I can get San Jose PD at 40+ miles, 3-4 bars yet can only get South San Francisco police at 8.5 miles, 1 bar with copyable voice because San Bruno Mountain is between us. Do a google earth check and see what's between you and that agency.

Not sure if this is related, but I have had some problems getting the trunked traffic. One of my solutions so far has been to toggle on the Attenuator just got that trunked system. It seems that some systems put too much signal into the radio.

Yes, the GRE radios have very sensitive receivers, maybe too much so at times.
I have read that users close to systems they listen to, try using a paper clip in the bnc for a antenna with better results although I haven't tried this yet.
