Good day!

I purchased a PRO-197 for my mother about a year ago, programmed it manually, and sent her off to the races. I know our local sites rebanded, and in response I've downloaded the v2.0 firmware update for the PRO-197. Remembering the hours I spent programming the PRO-197 manually, I purchased the ARC500 software, along with a six month Radio Reference premium membership and the cable.

I've got my sites & talk groups set up, including some old conventional frequencies around here that haven't jumped on board the IN SAFE-T network. Uploaded, and I can hear traffic on conventional frequencies, but not the 800/SAFE-T network. In the TSYS object, I can see the two command channels and two alternate channels for the two sites we have here locally, however, I see no other channels listed, even though in the Radio Reference document they list about six channels for each site.

My question is this...will I manually have to enter these channels in order to hear local SAFE-T traffic?

Thanks!

I'm not familiar with the "SAFE-T" system but I can tell you if it's a P25 system then you need only to enter control channel(s) and not the alternates. :)

The other thing you can do is search the 800 band and stumble upon the control channel the scanner will decode all traffic.Set public safety search and put 3 and 4 on only ,toggle off 0.1 and 2.From there you can store the SAFE T system into memory.

How do you have the talkgroups stored? It is possible that you did not turn the scan list(s).

Also, I would suggest keeping the alternate control channels in your list. Otherwise, if something goes wrong, the system can/will switch over, and you would lose the affected towers.

The system is a Motorola Type II, mixed mode, with both analog and digital talkgroups: Indiana Project Hoosier SAFE-T Trunking System, Statewide, Multi-State - Scanner Frequencies

Looking at Safe-T, a number of the sites have been rebanded, and some have both the old frequencies (866.xxxx to 868.xxx) and the expected replacements (after rebanding is complete) entered. Those frequencies are in the 851.xxxx to 853.xxxx range (the x's, of course, being replaced by the numbers). One example is the very first site in the list, 001, Indianapolis D52 Post. This would suggest to me that while it has not been completely rebanded, that process is moving forward, and may happen soon.

If you look at that site, you'll see the listed control channels are 866.9875 and 867.8625. However, those two will eventually be replaced by 851.9875 and 852.8625, which are already in the list. No guarantee that the replacements will be the new control channels, but that has been the pattern on the systems rebanded in my area.

As krokus has suggested, I would go ahead an add the alternate control channels. However, I believe that since many of these sites show both 'old' and 'new' frequencies, in some cases, the actual control channel in use may not be flagged as such yet. So, if I were trying to get the system 'back online', for the time being I'd lean toward using all the site frequencies for the two sites in your area. Once the rebanding process is complete, and the control channel usage has been established & noted, then you can always remove the extra frequencies at that point.

Also note that for those sites where any of the site frequencies (those under 854.0000) have a "0" (zero) in the fourth decimal place (example 851.97500), you will need to be using the custom tables on that site once rebanding has occurred. If all the site frequencies have a "5" in the fourth decimal place (example 851.98750), then no tables are needed for the scanner to track it correctly.

Don't forget that the Indiana Forum may be a better place to get area specific information on this system. Someone much closer to your area may have additional insight on the system.
