I purchased the Radio Shack Pro 197 and the 20-047 usb programming cable Feb 2010. At the time I was using Win XP. I had gotten comfortable with programming using Win500. I have recently started to listen to the scanner again, it has held my last programmed frequencies. I would like to make some changes. I am running Win 7 home premium . My questions are:
what software do I use?
will my 20-047 usb programming cable still work and what drivers do I need to install?
Thanks in advance for any help

I would use ARC500 software from Butel. I believe you will be ok with Windows 7 and the cable as the issue started with Windows 8 and the USB to serial drivers.

No reason you can't still use Win500 as long as you still have the registration keys. You can download the latest version at this link, and use your original keys:

I used Win500 with Win 7 for many years, and I'm still using Win500 with Win 10, and the drivers for that cable were installed automatically when connect to the computer.

I use ARC500 and WIN500 on Windows 10 with no problems. I find ARC500 easier to use than WIN500. I have RS 20-546 cables and they work well with both programs.
