I just came into possession of a pro-2022.
It works great and is super clean.
Question: Is it supposed to have a backlit display? I’m thinking yes, but, I see no indication of any light.
I’m not sure I want to get into replacing it if it is supposed to illuminate. I think the replacement panel will cost twice what the scanner costs.

Yes they normally have a light blue luminescent display. They're known to go bad after several years. Replacements are available and not real expensive or difficult to replace if your have any electronics/soldering experience. Or just aim a small desk lamp on it if you don't want to get into all of that.

I was actually a part of this old thread.
There were quite a few posts back then indicating that replacing these on various scanners wasn’t hard.
I didn’t do well when I tried back then.
This full post better depicts the level of difficulty to be “don’t bother”.

for most of my radios i don't even look at them.
i can tell how it is by car number or just the sound on some.
and on the other post some guy said a little desk lamp would do fine.
i have always thought a little LED on the screen would do great.

I agree. I usually have no need to see the display, I can tell by the content of the conversation & locations which frequency is active.

The display is pretty much a redundant feature once you get used to the traffic you hear. If you throw in something that's variable in what you hear (GMRS/MURS/etc) the display is actually pretty nice. But for public safety monitoring, everything is par for the course.
