I've had my Radio Shack Pr0-2050 Trunktracker scanner for about 6 or more years and my orange backlight is out. I was wondering is there any way I can get it fixed/replaced? If so, how much would that be? Thanks for all comments.

Bulb Replacement

The orange is created by a lens cover inside the scanner. I think RS parts wanted an arm and a leg for the bulb. I used either the 272-1141 or the 272-1140 packaged bulbs in stock at your local RS. I think that I used the 272-1140 6vdc bulb because it was brighter.

I've used the scanner every day for a couple of hours for two years with this bulb.

Repair Difficulty 2 Out of 10 IMHO

Unplug the scanner from power.

Take out the screws that hold the two case halves together. Snip the wires to the old bulb as close as you can to the bulb. Solder the old and new wires together matching colors and wrap with tape. You might even be able to do it without soldering if your careful but the wire is tiny.

Like I said, its been a while, but this is what I remember.
