Pro 2050

Compared to some of the other scanners, how would you rate the Pro 2050? I have one and am thinking about updating but if this one is a good one will keep it. Only thing wrong with it is back up light for display is out. Got to fix that. Thanks.

It's a good scanner but limited to Mot 800 analog and conventional. Another limitation is it does not have alpha tags. The bulb can be ordered from RS by calling 800 the shac or find an 8v led and solder it in place.

2050s are good as a test tool. I have BC-780's,796,PRO-96 etc. There are several MOT type one systems in the area other than the statewide type II . I PGM it with one in each bank and run in search mode once in a while to check for changes in users or new users. It's a keeper.

Not to hijack this thread but i didnt feel like this question was worhty of starting a new one. I ma trying to install a discriminator tap on a pro 2050 and am havin no luck. Ive done some searches and what i got so far is discriminator chip-MC3361CDR2, circuit symbol- IC-2, baseband audio pin 9. Ive opened it up and can take pics if it will help. There are chips numbered IC-202, IC-201, IC-205 etc. Im just bangin my head against the wall, any help is appreciated. Jon

Hey,
When I tapped my 2050 I used the pad labeled "DS". I don't have the radio any more, but I recall it being on the bottom of the board. Worked great for using a sound card or a slicer.

A bulb is available out of the drawer of parts at RS. Much cheaper than ordering the exact bulb.
No tags, no PL, no digital, but unless you're hard up for cash, its a good backup. I use mine to lock on conventional when something is going on. 10 priority channels is nice. I also use mine just to scan through those channels with my most important priority on 1, on down to 10.
