Hey all, I'm a new guy

I live in Harris County [Houston] and would like to moniter that Trunking systems around here.

Southeast Texas Area Radio Network (STARNET)
Motorola Type II SmartZone Most of Harris County's public safety and services operations are on this Motorola Smartzone system. The Starnet system covers numerous counties in the SE Texas area, so a number of different agencies share this system for communications.

Will the Radio Shack PRO-2051 suit me needs?

And what software would I need to program it?

Thanks

Although I've never used one, the 2051 looks like a nice unit. I did a search on GOOGLE and found http://www.scancat.com/ has software to program the 2051. Don Starr may be coming out with software to program the 2051 in the future. I'm not sure though so email him and ask. His website is http://www.starrsoft.com/

Also check out the local Houston scanning forum. Not much going on but someone there might be able to help you out setting it up and with frequencies. http://www.houstonscan.com/index.php
