Pro-2051 on its way out!!!

Hey all,

The Pro-2051 price has been dropped to $149.97, and it is a "clearance" item at RS... It's not technically "discontinued" yet, but it will be as soon as the warehouse stock is depleted.

(This confirms what many folks thought.... That the 2051 was just a stopgap "filler" until the 2055 was ready for prime time...)

the 2051 was the only decent looking desktop scanner RS had.

guess I will be buying some kind of uniden model when the time comes.

You might want to snag the Radio Shack version of the Uniden while you can. It has four times as many channels, 1,000 vs. 250! It has several other features beyond the Uniden version also. Oh yea, right now it's cheaper too!

I noticed the price drop last weekend and quickly ran over to the East Peoria rat shack and grabbed one. Great scanner with lots of features for little money. Receiver seems to be very hot with no noticed intermod. Trucking on edacs and moto systems works without a hitch. I just can't understand rat shack dropping a winner like this

Because the scanner has no alpha display, or ctcss/dcs decode. That's why............ I know some people can live without ctcss, but trunking without alpha? It's not 1997

I can agree with that. Unless it's an older model that is pre-alpha, I honestly wouldn't want it. I do like my Pro-2006 and Pro-2045 (with CTCSS board), but a new model without alpha - not for this guy! I have a hard time living without decode as well. I guess I am just a spoiled scanner brat! :lol:

I agree that this would be a good deal, and it has more channels then the BCT-8.
But,
Because its a Uniden Radio marketed by Radio Shack, I never did see any software being written for it.
I was concerned it woud become an orphan...

I guess its still a good deal either way.....

Here are the benefits I have of owning a 2051:

*Cheap, decent looking desktop radio to tap the discriminator and use for trunker applications.
*If you only own a Pro-96 and a Pro-2096, it is a great radio for LTR operation.
*If you're not doing trunking because your '96 and '2096 take care of it, and you're not doing trunker, it's great for VHF/UHF conventional

I'd pick one up just to have around...it's not a bad radio.

I didn't know the PRO-2051 was considered a closeout item yet. I was hoping RS was going to put them on sale for $99 or $125 just before Christmas. Does it offer anything over the PRO-2067. Maybe I'll just keep it instead.

I have read that you do have to put it in LCN order - but I haven't actually messed with LTR to tell you for sure.

It would be interesting to see if it works well with LTRtrunk in the LTR tracking mode.
