For the past few weeks I have been attempting to program EDACS frequencies into my Pro-2055 scanner. I've read other posts here, and have attempted some research, but I just can't seem to catch on to it.

All the frequencies, talkgroups, control channels, tags...I just don't know.

Anyone have any advice, I would like Marshall and Grundy counties [IA] to be programmed.

In an EDACS system the freqs. must be put into specific channels in your scanner as specified in the database. You can't just start in channel one and put them in.

First I'd get myself programming software and a cable. If you go here you'll see a link for WIN97. The programming cable can be purchased online or Radio Shack or perhaps you can find an older cheaper one. RS wants ~$35 for the cable, but it will save tons of headaches.

Next I think you want to program THIS system. I see that it has a ton of sites. If you want more than one site, each needs to be programmed in its OWN BANK of the scanner. If only one site is selected at a time, in theory you might be able to share more than one in a bank, but with EDACS it depends on which "repeaters" each site uses.

Looking at the list of sites, I see this one [1204 (4B4)] for Grundy county. Let's say you are going to program that site into bank 1 of the scanner. 854.46250 would go into channel 105, 856.21250 would go into channel 108, 857.21250 would go into channel 109, 858.21250 would go into channel 110, 859.21250 would go into channel 111, 860.21250 would go into channel 112 and 861.21250 would go into channel 113. All of those channels must be set to EDACS and the BANK must also be set to EDACS.

Now if you run with the bank set to OPEN (not closed) then you will be able to hear any group talking. Once that is working, program the desired TGs you want into the same bank of the scanner and set the bank to closed. Note: you must be in SCAN mode for the scanner to follow a conversation as it jumps around.
