I'm having major trouble with my Pro 2055. I already fixed the display screen once last week. Earlier this morning I got frustrated with the noise blips it was giving me on the Priority channel of 46.48 so out of frustration, I slammed my fist on the top of it. Then the display screen started acting funny. It went out then came back but was dim and looked like it kept fainting. So I went inside and attempted to scrape off the remaining plastic on the wire going to the display screen. I wasn't really successful and I reconnected the speaker wires to the logic board and put it back together. I plugged it back in and put the antenna on and at first, the display screen worked, but then it went out. Then all of a sudden, nothing worked at all. No sound, the buttons weren't doing anything, etc. I shook it and thought something was loose so I opened it back up and checked the speaker wire to make sure it was in all the way (which it was). So I put it back together, plugged it back in, and once again nothing at all (other than the back lighting and I can't even adjust that).

Does anyone have any idea what happened here? Is there any way I could fix it myself as this unit is NOT under warranty? Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Anger Management Classes. :D

I would start looking for bad solder joints. Not knowing the radio, can you run it with the case open, if so, press lightly around the PCB with it on and see if you get anything to make it start working again. Short of that, and perhaps hitting a few solder joints, I think you have a repair bill? Best of Luck and Merry Christmas...

Now I'm Really Stumped

Well I opened the case back up, rescrewed everything, and now the sound and screen work perfectly, but the buttons don't do anything. I can't change the frequency, listen to the weather, turn the priority on/off, etc, but I can listen to 506.6875 PL 141.3 (Delco MED B) all I want (and I guess the 46.48 will come on as the Priority channel since it is stuck on). Any idea on how to fix this stumper?

If you run out of ideas, you could take it by your local radio shack and request that it be sent off for reapir. It doesn't even have to be a radio shack brand scanner. Yes, you will have to front some money for this, but in the end, the amount you pay will be less than what you would spend on a new scanner.
I have two radios being repaired by this service right now. I have used them in the past to good result.

I am not a radio shack employee, nor do I have any ties to the company at all.

Cheers,

Joe,
Are there connectors between the front panel and the main board? Check ALL connectors and be careful not to puch too hard, but try resetting them and see what you get. Make sure you didn't have any of the screws shorting anything, etc. Go slow and look and check everything CLOSELY, if you didn't short anything or cause a failure, you may get it back up and running. Good Luck..

One other thing. You mentioned that the keyboard didn't work now, did anything fall out of the area? Look closely and also make sure the keypad is aligned right in the panel or on the board it's attached to.

A sharp blow to any electronic device now with the boards so small they break when flexed very little.

I have been in the electronics field going all the way back to 1979 when I went to electronic school so when people make the remark do not open or try to repair without proper training it is said for a good reason.
Beating on any electronic device will only result in the device working worse or not at all.
If you hurry you might be able to replace it with a $99.00 scanner from radioshack but you need to hurry or you will have to pay $219.00 for the replacement.

Come to think I have a tube type VFO receiver that might work better for you.

Fixed!

I opened the 2055 up again tonight and found the problem - I didn't properly screw the front board back in after checking the display cable. So I basically got the front board back on properly, screwed it back on, and viola - it works again! The buttons are back lit and I can change the channel, scan, and listen to the weather again! I'm just so relieved I won't need to take it to the Shack. Next time it frustrates me I'll just call it a b**** a** m****f*****r and other curse words.

Do not try this at home

I remember working as a LAN Admin for a credit card company in Omaha; got sent to a users desk because the monitor was on the fritz. I took one look at it, and gave it a pop on the side (the old IBM monitors) and it became operational again, and worked for another 9 months before it up and died.

Needless to say, the user was quite aghast that I popped the monitor and commented on it, to which I replied "years of training to know where to hit it, do not try this at home."

We both got a good laugh out of it.

I bought a new 2055 a few weeks ago. It was dead out of the box. I thought I would risk it but the reviews were correct. It had an 07 date code also.

Does anyone know how to turn off weather priority but still keep my other channels as priority?
