I need help! I was programming 3 pro 2055 radios and the screen went blank on one of the radios. Is there a reset button somewhere for this? The radio works othe than this problem.
There is a reset button on the back of the scanner. Will need a pen to push the button but im not sure this will work. Some pro-2055's are known to have screens die...
I have had my PRO-2055 since 2006 and the screen recently started going out on it. It will be fine for the first 5 minutes or so and then the text disappears except for a small line here and another there. Do you know if there is a place to get a replacement screen or should I just toss it and get another used one? I was thinking about just replacing it with a digital one since my county is on digital, but I really do not need two digital scanners in my van.
FIXED IT!!!!
All ya gotta do is dismantle the scanner and remove the screws for the front panel, then carefully tighten the tiny little ribbon cable that leads from the display encasing to the front panel / keypad board with your fingers. Make sure the ribbon cable is securely in the socket without any loose edges. If still no luck, carefully remove the ribbon cable from the socket by lightly tugging at the tip of the cable (do not yank it, it is very delicate and can easily break) then gently reinsert the cable tightly into the socket. Been working perfectly for me ever since, hope it keeps up! Note: you need to be extremely nimble and dexterous with the fingers!!
UNWORKING LCD REPAIR:
The Radio Shack PRO-2055 has a well-documented problem with the LCD display going out. Radio Shack has refused to publicly acknowledge this problem, instead opting to force users to pay a repair bill which usually ranges from $75-$100 and often takes in excess of 3 weeks.
When sent for service, Radio Shack replaces the LCD and the units works again. However, it appears the problem does not lie in the LCD itself, but in the ribbon cable/connector going to the LCD.
Here is an fairly easy fix that has worked for me every time:
Gain access to front PCB by removing both covers and front face of radio.
locate the ribbon cable the goes to the LCD display.
Remove the ribbon cable from the connector by gently pulling up on the connector and sliding the ribbon out.
Using a sharp pair of scissors, cut off approximately 1-2mm of the leading edge that will go back in to connector. Be sure to make a straight clean cut.
Reinsert ribbon cable in connector, clamp connector shut. (It appears some PRO-2055's do not have a clamp-style connector. If this is the case simply reinsert the cable into the connector as far as possible.)
Reassemble radio and test display.
I have tested this theory on five (5) separate units (two of my own, five belonging to friends or repair customers) and have had the same result each time. The display works again.
Before shipping your PRO-2055 to the Radio Shack Repair Center for a costly out-of-warranty repair, it won't hurt to try this fix. It has worked for me every time.

Which ribbon cable did you trim - the first one as soon as you open up the case or the second ribbon attached to the display after removing the front faceplate? I have had fixed 3 2055s and they were all having problems in the connection of the second ribbon cable that attaches to the actual LCD. I look at them through a jewelers glass. Some look like a microscopic piece of tape or something is on them. After I cleaned them they worked fine...... Knock on wood. If you cleaned the second and it still doesn't work its probably a bad LCD.
