Has anyone else had a problem with the display going blank? The scanner still works, but the lcd gets so faint that you can't read it. It seems to be worse in the winter (I live in Wyoming). If you tap it it seems to come back for a short time then fades out again. Otherwise the scanner is great.

Are you refferring to the backlight,.. or just the alphanumeric display?

If its the display,... you may need a new one before too long.. after all these are old scanners.

Same for the backlight.. simple fix,.. just replace it. (the backlight, not the scanner lol)

LCD's are sensitive to temperature and if you use the scanner in the car it can fade out until the car warms up inside.

Since tapping on the display produces a reaction, you may have a loose connection in the radio.

LCD's normally last a long time - the one in my PRO-2004 is 18 years old and works fine.

Did you try adjusting the display contrast? This may or may not do anything, but worth a try.

Milf, sounds like you're mixing up the PRO-2067 with the 2004. The former is not that old, and uses LED backlighting, which should last a long time.

Pro92b, I also have a 2004, circa 1988 and its LCD display is fine, except for the well-known dimming EL backlight problem. I was aware of replacements but Lindsay's just pointed out a really good source also. Have you replaced yours?

LOL,.. well in the tech world,.. if its over a year old, its out of date lol... and if its no longer manufactured, its old. Heck I am typing this on an obsolete Gateway 2000 PC... with an completely stoneaged Pentium III...... go figure!

Thanks for the replies! I took it apart and it seems like one of the ribbon cables MAY have been loose. Anyhow, it seems to be working now, and it seems to work better when it is warm.
