I am new to scanning , and purchased a pro 2096, and i had it programmed for my area. It seems to stop on frequencies with nothing but static and doesn't move on. I read the manual, and turned the squelch to the right setting. It is also worth noting that i live in the middle of nowhere.

Any help would be appreciated.

thx

It could be possibly 2 things:

Inferference. If you are using it near a computer, TV, or other electronic device it will create some interference on certain frequencies. If you turn the source of the interference off, it should fix the problem.

Birdie frequencies. See your manual.

Hope This Helps :)

Very Fine advice, sometimes I get a burst of static in APCO25 which makes no sense, but it moves on in less than 2 Seconds.
Scanning EDACS it is far worse and involves Squelch Control to solve.

Computers, Digital Cable, DSL, the DPS bunker, are all near so I expect some static due to
spurious emmission and the lack of rejection in the receiver. You gotta live in the present and it's not an RF garden!
