Since I found out that the BCT-15 is not digital, I am now looking at the Radio Shack PRO 2096 or the GRE PSR-600 which are both digital. The PSR-600 is triple trunking.

I live in Phoenix, AZ and I am wondering is the triple trunking realy necessary?

Thank you

Bob

Given the fact the Pro-2096 and the PSR-600 are basically the same price I'd have to go with the PSR-600.
They are actually both quad trunking.

The 600 does quite a bit better job dealing with the PRWN simulcast system. It has a more advanced DSP and I have used both. No comparison. The 600 is newer technology and it shows. A 996 is closer, but the 2096 is inferior to the 600 by a clear margin.

Also, the 600 sounds better on digital systems as a whole too, with the voice having a better quality.

I have both of these radios and agree with the other posters. If the price is similar, then the GRE-600 wins hands down in my opinion. The GRE combines the best of both worlds and more. It has the terrific digital sound quality of the Pro-2096 and the feature-rich set of the Unidens (and more). You also get NAC decoding functionality with the GRE, which is one of the best features I've ever had. I use that all the time to completely eliminate analog signals from disrupting my digital monitoring. It's the only radio out there with that functionality.

Go with the 600... I don't have one but have its handheld twin the 500 and I have both the 96 and 2096. While the 96/2096 are trusty old friends my 500 is 10 times better. I wouldn't trade the 96 or 2096 for anything (ok maybe a 500 or 600 but I don't think anyone would do that) but the 500/600 takes what is great about the 96/2096 and builds upon that.

The 600 will stand up better to changes in frequency use resulting from rebanding and has the ability to receive the new 700 MHz public safety band right out of the box.

Since I live in Phoenix, AZ do I go to their web site to download all of the frequiencies in the Phoenix Metro area? I know that there was a Radio Shack scanner that you did that with.
