Can anybody tell me why RS discontinued the 2096 or was this a scheme designed by the feds to pull it because they didn't want anybody to be able to listen in after rebanding? Seems fishy that only 2 scanners support rebanding. Thats just really weird.

The PRO-2096 was just an older model that has been replaced by the PRO-197, which has a few more capabilities and features. Likewise, the PRO-96 was replaced by the PRO-106.

There are more than 2 models that support the rebanding..Most of the fed stuff in my area is encrypted anyways.
