My Pro-26 still works on AC power but will not work with batteries. This is probably a stupid question but will radio shacks repair facility still work on this radio even though they long ago stopped selling it? I have many newer scanners but it seems like a waste not to be able to use this scanner.

Yes they will. I blew the board on mine about a year ago, and they happily replaced the board for me. If you're good with a screw driver, I'd pull it apart and look for loose wires/connectors. It's not like you're going to void the warrenty or anything. Ummm, the batteries you're trying are good right?? (kidding)
