Any suggestions on where to get a replacement speaker for the Pro-43. I bought a small speaker from Radio Shack but it is too thick. I have been looking for a broken Pro-43 one on ebay. I have been looking on google for speakers but have yet to find anything so any help would be appreciated. The scanner works fine with headphone or external speaker plugged in and I did the speaker mod that was supposed to help, but not much change. I am hoping that replacing the speaker will help.--Gary

Will my Radio Shack store know what to do with that number and what are the odds they would still have it in stock somewhere since the scanner is so old. I was hoping to get a "better" speaker than the one that is in the scanner now.

I know I am resurrecting a very old thread but the issue is relevant to me now and people may be interested in my resolution. My Pro-43 suddenly developed terrible audio. I tested the scanner with a plug in speaker and it sounded fine, so that lead me to believe that my speaker had gone bad.
I googled and found this old thread and saw that the original poster never indicated whether he found a replacement speaker. I also found a an old post by Bill Parnas where he talks about various RS scanners, common issues and resolutions. One of the scanners was the PRO-43 and bad speakers:Repair Tips: Radio Shack Scanner Radios
In the post, he mentioned a good replacement speaker, noting part #EAS-3P127 at Radio Shack. Since the article was so old I didn't bother checking RS. Rather I googled the part number and up came this Digikey part number- P10175-ND which shows to be a Panasonic speaker:
-
Manufacturer Panasonic - ECG
Manufacturer Part Number EAS-3P127A
Description SPEAKER ROUND 36MM 8 OHM .5W

If you read Parnas' write up, you'll note that the specs are the same. The picture of the speaker looks like it will work. I ordered one and I will note my results when I install it. Note that this is a discontinued part and they have about 1400 in stock. The speaker costs $6.70 each.

I recently repaired a Motorla FRS radio that needed a new speaker. I didn't think I'd find one, but just for fun searched Digikey, and they had one for a couple bucks.
