I have an aged PRO-46 scanner (handheld) that I've had in storage for a few years. I pulled it out and installed batteries this week but receive nothing on it, not even weather frequencies. It's almost as if the antenna is disconnected but I verified the antenna and it's fine. Any ideas on this. Thanks.

Some may laugh, but anyway......I have a '46' which had been sitting idle since being succeeded by a 396T and 106. Decided to reactivate it, but it seemed to be dead.

Oh well, nothing to lose. Can't remember if it wouldn't scan or what, but decided to take it apart. Poked around inside but could not find anything suspicious, so put it back together.

It immediately started working.

Thinking about it, have always used it on battery power. May have been some crud on contacts. Whatever. It's still sitting mostly idle. Good luck.

I thought about taking it apart just to see if that might help. The display is a bit dim also. Nothing to lose considering it's age and all.

I tried the suggestions here but it still doesn't work. As suggested, I figure old age may be the culprit. The display is rather dim anyway so I've just decided to "retire" it. I hate to throw anything away so may donate it as a non-working device to a local vendor at a flea market.

That said, I may be looking for a new scanner to replace it. Haven't made up my mind yet, though.

Thanks for the suggestions.
