I have a pro 60 scanner which for the most part works great, except that the 6 key almost never ever works, you have to keep pushing it and at angles to get it to work, and also the screen sometimes displays only 1/2 a screen and such, that i believe is that it just isn't sticking to the contact for it, b/c there is nothing holding it there it just sorta sits on it inside the scanner, but that is not really a problem, it is just the six key, the pad itself is fine on the inside and out, and checked where the key hits the circuit board and everything looks fine, was thinking about trying some contact cleaner on it? not sure if that would be bad for the board though and was just wondering if anyone has any suggestions???

thanks,

Old electronic technician trick:
Take a pencil eraser and rub it across the circuit board contact.
Rub it pretty good until it look like a shinny new circuit and then
remove the eraser rubber by blowing on the circuit board or wipe
it off with a peice of cloth.
Also you might want to do it to the keypad itself.
It will clean off corrosion and build up on the contact.
Won't beleive how many times this solves a problem.

Hi Caesar,

I had similar problems with a PRO-43. Both suggestions provided are great ones.

I was lucky enough to get a replacement keypad from Radio Shack. My problems with the intermittent display was that I did not have the screws tight enough on the circuit board between the front of the radio and the display.

You can probably get a new keypad by calling 1-800-the-shack after you review the detailed parts list for the radio on the R/S website. The keypad for my PRO-43 was less than 10 bucks.

Hope this helps.

alright, an update, the eraser cleaning on the board didn't change anything. :-(

and i can not get the case tigher than it is, and the screen still goes blank and changes, like the connectioni s moving loose, but nothing inside is loose, and it mainly occurs when i press a key with just a slight bit of extra pressure and then the screen messes up???

also, agian about the 6, the eraser thing didn't work, and the key pad looks completely fine, so i don't think that replacing it would make a difference, but might try anyway.

well, i brought it to work with me today so i have another 8 hours to tinker with it, so if you have any more suggestions please suggest it!

thanks! :)

cani get an exploded view of this scanner anywhere? or does anyone have a picture or remember the insides of their Pro 60? b/c i think i am missing the two screws right below the display, and that is what is causing my screen issue, as well as the screw right below the speaker...

alright, turns out it was a problem with the insides being loose, there are 3 missing screws, so i have placed some foam in the back to create a tigher hold for now and will try to get screws and see if i can get them in, but they are impossible angles, but with the foam in, it is working pretty good now, the screen is fine and not as hard to get the to work..

thanks guys...
