I have a pro 64 hyperscan that is about 10 years old and after listening to the scanner for about half an hour, the channels all erased. Lately I have been using the power cord instead of the battery pack, but I didn't know if that had anything to do with it or not. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Does it have a battery that goes in the inside of the radio were it looks like a watch battery just a thought

I had the same problem with a pro-51 a while back. My problem was where you plugged in the power supply on the side of the scanner was loose. If you hit the wire or even touched it sometimes, it would erase all the frequencies I had programmed in to it. It was my first scanner, so it was my hand-held during the day and base at night. Well it got knocked off the table a few times and I sent it in to Radio Shack for repair but it never worked the same..........Ray

It has a 6 AA battery pack. I'll get more batteries and try it out.

I'll spray some air duster where the power cord connects to see if that does any good as well. I'll check the connection too and see if it is loose.

Thanks for all the help.

What I was refering to was that you might have a round battery inside the radio , you would have to take the radio apart and look in side to see if it had one for memory but that could be somthing to look at , then again I may be wrong but it's worth a try to look.

Mem trouble

Has this scanner been in continuous use for the ten years or has it been put away. Its possible that some of the capacitors have dried out and that may lead to problems of one type or another.

When you say "erase", do you mean you have to reprogram the frequencies or does it just die as in loses power? Are you using rechargable batteries when this happens? Have you tried fresh alkaline batteries? Possibly the rechargables would be old and not taking a charge or your ac adapter is bad.

PM with which town you're near, I may be able to suggest someone to look at it for you, if you're not comfortable with trouble shooting this unit. I don't think there's anybody at RS now that would be willing to do this for you.

There's no manual online, but here's a link to what is still there.

The scanner hasn't been used a whole lot. Mostly a couple times a year at race tracks and then occasionally on evenings when I'm home. I have to reprogram the frequencies but the whole thing doesn't lose power. I only use alkaline batteries when I'm not using the power cord. Thanks again for all the info.

The PRO-64 uses a capacitor to backup memory. The manual says it backs up memory for an hour if all power is disconnected from the radio. The capacitor type is listed below and a substitute can be found at Mouser or DigiKey. It is most important to get a capacitor that is the same physical size so it fits in the radio and be sure the voltage rating is not less than 5.5V. The backup time is proportional to capacitance and if you find a cap rated at more than 0.047F it will hold up the memory longer.

C345 10555225 CAP,.047F +80-20% 5.5V
