Notice you have an 8800R dual bander Clyde. I just manually programmed my buddy's 8800 with the new state wide linked SARnet frequencies. Had to read the manual to get them in and then had to go back and delete my mess up's. Is there software that you use to program it? what is the cable that you use? He is like 80 years old and has problems getting it programmed.

OK. I have read the manual twice, cover to cover. Searched a lot of times. I must have missed this part. How do I set up for the display to light up and stay lit up while a transmission in coming in? There is references to the LED's but not the display.

OK. Just checked my rechargeable battery case ( yellow one) and one of the slots has no contacts there. Guess I will have to call the RS in gulf breeze to see if they will replace just the battery case.

In WIN500, you can. Look at the conventional tab and it is in the box on the right side of the frame. Backlight on/off/flash.

I had a GRE PSR-500 and loved it. Sold it last year as it became surplus to my needs...and have recently regretted that decision. Saw the 651 sale on e-bay and decided to buy it. This 651 works exactly like my 500 did, so I am a happy and satisfied user! Using PSRedit or WIN500 makes programming it simple.

Also, if it hasn't been mentioned enough - go find Mark's Easier to Read Scanner Manual for this (and other) scanner. Excellent resource!

Did that and it lights up when I push a button but it does not light up when a transmission is coming in.

Went into the win 500 and changed it to the exact way you have it. still does not light up.

How do I set up for the display to light up and stay lit up while a transmission in coming in?

The advice that is being given is for button presses only and not for when an object is active. In order to do this, you have to either manually edit everything to light up by selecting what frequency/TG you want to light up and then hitting PGM - EDIT - CURR. You then scroll down until you see the Backlight option (located between Latch LED and Alarm) and then switch the option to On. Save the setting and it will light up for that specific object. If you want all of them to do this, you will need to repeat this for everything.

In Win500 you will have to do this in multiple steps, but it is a whole lot faster than doing it by hand by a long shot. Go to the CONV Objects tab and then highlight all your conventional frequencies (Ctrl + A). Look on the right side for Alerts and set Backlight to On. If you have trunked things, you will need to go to the TSYS Objects tab and then go into the individual systems before selecting all the TGRPs (click on one of the TGRP objects and then Ctrl + A to select all the talkgroups). The same backlight setting can then be applied.

John, if you did not, as Spitfire mentions, select the Backlight On for each object you must do that first. You can change those object settings in groups in Win500 by highlighting the first object, hold down the shift key and click on the last object and then on the right hand side change Backlight to "On"

Backlight setting for CONV and TSYS

In WIN500 you have to set the Backlight on both the CONV and the TSYS tabs. See the following screen shots, right side of the screen just below Alerts Alarm. One other note, you need to select which TSYS Talk Groups and CONV frequencies to turn on. You can select them by two methods. To select all, click and hold the mouse button on the top row and drag down then release leaving them highlited and now go to Backlight and select On. To select individual frequencies or Talk Groups click and hold on the first one and with your hand press the CTRL key on your keyboard, now you can release the mouse button and keep selecting additional frequencies or Talk Groups. Once you made your selections go to the Backlight and select On.

Thanks everyone. This is why i come here for info about stuff I can not figure out. everyone is so helpful. I have to go back to the store where I purchased it and have them change out the rechargable battery holder. Found that the springs that hold the batteries in are missing on one side. Been using alkaline batteries last few days.

I hope you are not charging your batteries in the radio. That is a very dangerous practice. RadioReference has several horror stories about ruined radios from doing that. Use the black battery holder and buy a standalone battery charger.

John. I have 2 standalone chargers that I charge my batteries. Need to get another 4 pk of rechargeable ones and that will give me 12 that I can rotate between the 97, 125AT, and the 651. I took the 651 with me when i went to change out the battery holder at RS and they said they would change out the whole radio lock, stock and barrel. I do believe the one I purchased a few days ago was a returned scanner. Just had a feeling. this new one is up and running great. Already cloned it from my 197. I checked it from stem to stern and it was a brand new one.

I'm assuming that the Pro-651 does not decode APCO25 Phase 2? Is this true or does it?

to the owners of the 651. I have noticed that the antenna connection on mine is "really" snug. In fact i have had to take the little plastic cover off the BNC post so the antenna will snap in. anyone having the same issue.
