Some of the ones I've seen are like that, it varies, most will loosen up fairly quickly and then wiggle quite a bit, if you take the antenna off constantly. The BNC connector is really cheap and the center of it is a "forked" type instead of the much better split ring type, and they often break, so don't swap antennas if you don't really need to. My 106(same radio, different model number) is an early one, and the connector is still ok, my GRE PSR-500 (Again, same radio) had it's BNC replaced a while back.

Been working on a new list of freq's from the surrounding counties here in NW Florida. Lots of changes since Dan help me out with my 197. Some have went to SLERS and to other things. Escambia county is encrypted from what i read. Santa Rosa county is talking like they will do the same thing new year. Walton county SO is gone as well. Hard work for these 68 year old eyes.

to the owners of the 651. I have noticed that the antenna connection on mine is "really" snug. In fact i have had to take the little plastic cover off the BNC post so the antenna will snap in. anyone having the same issue.

On mine the stock antenna goes on okay as well as a Prime RD-8 ham dual band, but a Jetstream dual band won't and my PL-259 to BNC and F to BNC adapters won't latch either.

Both my diamond dual band Ht antenna's are really snug to. I do not want to force it. It's right at the top of the post where it clicks in. I just ordered a few spares (HT antenna's) from amazon from expert power. Mike I got the same thing on my 259 to BNC. I have a mini dual band with a BNC on the end. It's a little better and will actually get over the hump but it is really hard to do.

Simulcast/Multicast with PRO-651

Can anyone comment if the PRO-651 is able to decode a multi-site simulcast CQPSK system? System here has about a dozen transmitters transmitting at the same time and frequency and my PRO-96 will not track the system anymore. Can anybody comment on how well this scanner is able to trunk a simulcast system? 73

Huntsville is using simulcast from 3 sites that I know of. My 651 sometimes struggles with the 2 sites that are closest to me and in line of sight. I lose about 2 percent of the broadcast traffic. Planning on trying a yagi to mask out one of the sites.

Pro 651 Thoughts

Just got the Pro-651 after using a Pro-29 for a long time. The comments I read about these newer units being difficult to program concerned me, but I also knew i would figure it out if the manual explained it too.

Got mine NIB on EBAY for $185 w/ free shipping. Radio Shack wouldn't budge off the price at all, and i like buying locally, but when it meant saving hundreds of dollars you do what you gotta do.

I agree, programming manually is tricky, but once you store a few frequencies you get the hang of it quickly.

Being in the mountains, I noticed you need to turn off the attenuator globally. I actually always keep it off on my radio, otherwise my pro-29 would outperform the 651!

It's great to have the additional frequencies to listen to. Having the frequencies arranged by type for searches is a nice starting point out of the box, but you should really take advantage of the neat customization feature the unit has to offer. I'll be adding a different color lights for certain favorite frequencies today.
