I just tried to program my scanner with the ARC 500 basic and put my Trunked systems in and now I can't see the "T" on the display.
I'm trying to listen to StarCom21 State of Illinois system. I'm 15 miles from any tower sites using the back of set antenna. Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks. Greg

Did you have success before acquiring a control channel signal with this scanner & antenna? 15 miles is a be a bit too far out with the stock antenna indoors. 700 & 800mhz doesn't propagate out as far as VHF & UHF do. You may need an outdoor antenna or position your scanner by a window facing the closest tower site for any hopes of a pick up.

2nd issue is that the system is P25 Phase-II CAPABLE. Once you finally do acquire a signal you'll only be able to pick up talkgroups ID'ed as mode "D" in the RRDB. Mode "T" talkgroups are TDMA so you won't be able to pick them up with a Pro 652.

Thirdly, not sure if you're aware or not but only ISP & IDOT operate on STARCOM in your county. Everyone else operates conventionally, your sheriff being on NXDN which the Pro 652 cannot track

Best wishes!

Thank you for the input. I had this scanner working a year ago. As far as I know the systems not using Phase II.

Our Sheriff just went to a new system and I was told that system is encrypted. Im half way between Champaign, Decatur . I used to receive traffic on the Pesotum ISP tower. Again thanks for the reply. GLG

Are you sure it is encrypted? The database says otherwise. The PRO-652 is not capable of receiving NXDN.

Sheriff is NXDN4800, in the clear (not encrypted), using no TG (TG0) and appears to be simulcast across all 3 towers (11/19) *future 151.4675

There are no sites in Piatt County for STARCOM21. I would try both the Champaign and Pesotum sites in Champaign County and the Argenta/Oreana site in Macon County.

I use ARC500 also. If you attach your .gr5 programming file, I will be happy to take a look at it. You will need to zip the file to be able to attach it. Click on Attach files and open the zipped file.

I hope you can open this,. Is there an "Attenuation" setting on the program?

I took my scanner out in my truck today and it worked fine! Maybe I need a different antenna?

I'm using the one supplied with my scanner 5 section desk top w BNC connector. Thanks. Greg

On the Piatt county I talked to a deputy who said it required a "Key" to listen to. I've had others tell me its not encrypted.

That antenna is not a good choice for MOBILE OPERATION.
Also you truck computer could be producing so much noise it is killing the signal.
Does it work better with the key off motor off?
Does it work better sitting on the roof or hood?

My scanner works great in my truck. It’s in my home where I can’t get the control channel to show up on screen. I am thinking some setting needs changed. Thanks for the reply.

No settings to change not on that scanner plus it works.
Try moving the scanner to a window.
Move the scanner away from your wireless router.
Turn off all LED lights.
You have some stray RF of your house is a FARADAY CHAGE.

Thank you for that advice. I am going to move it out of my computer room to a window. Greg.

First responders often don't understand much about the inner workings of the radios they are using. Your scanner will not receive NXDN. I made a couple of changes to your file. Save the attached zipped file to your computer and extract. Open the extracted file with ARC500. You will be able to select the 2 sites in Champaign County and the Argenta/Oreana site in Macon County by scan list. You will be able to scan one or any combination of the sites. If the scanner works OK in your truck, it is not a programming problem. Try turning the squelch counterclockwise in the house to see if it works. Scan lists as follows:

SCAN LISTS:
1. SC21 Champaign
2. SC21 Pesotum
3. SC21 Argenta/Ore
