GRECOM PSR-800 EZ Scan Digital
Handheld Trunking Scanner
CPU Firmware Update Release Notes
Version U1.9 - December 9, 2014
Fixed EDACS patching bug.
Add delay in USB startup required by some USB host hardware.
Version U1.8 - January 15, 2013
Added ability to decode APCO Project 25 Phase 2 TDMA voice channels. This version must only be used in conjunction with DSP firmware version U1.3 or later.
When this version is installed, the uP Appl Ver line on the version screen (accessed by pressing the MENU when the welcome message is displayed after a power up) will show as version 1.8.
When a Phase 2 talkgroup is active, the scanner will display "D2" instead of "DG".
We recommend ensuring the sites on a P25 Phase 2 system be set to Auto-Fill mode. This will allow the scanner to automatically set the information needed to track the system from the control channel data stream. Don't use "custom tables" for Phase 2 systems unless you really know what you're doing.
Added support for decoding of radio ID and priority channel detection since the release of Beta 2.
Fixed issue in the Beta 2 versions with the scanner not returning to the control channel when a Phase 2 transmission ends when the other time slot is in use on the same frequency.
Version U1.6 - July 25, 2012
Fixed private call wildcard bug on Motorola and EDACS systems.
Added "ScanSets Opt" setting. If enabled (checked), Scan Sets alone govern whether a scan list is scanned; the master Scan List enable array is ignored.
Add option to tune to encrypted voice calls on Motorola systems. While the scanner will tune to those talkgroups, the scanner cannot decrypt the voice data being received.
Add option to tune to digital and/or encrypted voice calls on EDACS systems. While the scanner will tune to those talkgroups, the scanner cannot decode the ProVoice data or decrypt an encrypted voice channel.
Fixed 5th line not being cleared in "simple displays" mode, when going from a TGRP to a CONV object.
Fixed apparent "stuck" alternating displays when the display is updated frequently.
Fixed CCDump-to-file when loading a new V-Scanner folder.
The CCDump log count is now configurable. Available choices are 100, 200, 500 or 1000. This change also required the file name change to DUMP_nnn.LOG.
Note: Using a setting of 1000 can overwhelm a 2GB Micro SD card pretty quickly if most of your scanning is done on trunked systems.
Version U1.5 - January 9, 2012
Verson U1.5 adds a new import option to the PSR-800 scanner.
When enabled the scanner can import all frequencies systems based on a combination of County, City, or Zip Code and the usage tag (i.e. "Multi-Dispatch", "Law-Dispatch", "Fire-Dispatch") seen on the RadioReference.com web site.
When the Location Select option is enabled, scan lists 151 through 200 are renamed to match the usage tags present in the library database. Items imported via the Set Location menu will be placed in these scan lists. If custom alpha tags for these scan lists exist, those names will be preserved should the location select option be later turned off.
This new option is accessed via the Set Location menu option provided the following conditions are met:
Location Database files must be installed on the scanner's Micro SD card. These files are available and updated via the PC Application and may be installed using the "Check for Library Updates" function or the "Copy Library to Scanner/SD Card" option.
The Frequency Library Database must be at version 84 or later. These files may also be updated using the PC Application.
The "LocationSelect" option in the scanner's Settings menu must be checked.
Beware: Using the "Clear Channels" option in the Set Location menu will erase ALL conventional and trunked data in the currently selected V-Scanner folder.
Updated the battery icon process voltage levels to more accurately show the current state of the batteries.
Minor changes to the low battery shutdown order to minimize the slight chance of SD Card corruption due to uncontrolled shutdown.
Public Safety search and sweeper ranges have been changed to correctly reflect current band usage.
In object browser, added audible indication to up/down keys that you've passed the top/bottom of the scan list's contents
In CCDump, added EDN vs. EDW indicator based on current site
Disable all location-setting items if the Bandplan is set to Canada in the main Settings menu.
Fixed blank "site" tag in playback (when no site tag stored, was alternating TSYS tag with a blank line)
Fixed handling of SKIP key in V-Scanner delete confirmation
Optimizations to library browse/select code
Changed 154-156MHz range to accommodate Marine channels while also preserving pre-1.2 frequencies
Re-arranged main menu items per suggestions
changed default 'on battery' light mode to KEY (though the power key would always do the same thing) per suggestions
changed default backlight brightness level to 4
Added 'delete' function (via SKIP key) to V-Scanner browser
Fixed bug in loading V-Scanner folders (wasn't properly closing CONV and TSYS files that might be open, resulting in 'object read errors')
In the Set Location menu, there is a "Backup Data" option. It will copy the current configuration to the first (lowest-numbered) available V-Scanner folder, indicating that number to the user when the copy is complete. The "description" text for the folder will be:
Backup from Set
Location menu:
Date: yyyy-mm-dd
Time: hh:mm:ss
In the V-Scanner function, pressing SKIP will now delete the displayed V-Scanner folder. The user is prompted to confirm that he really wants to delete the entire folder. The user cannot delete the "default" folder or the currently-loaded V-Scanner folder. If he attempts to do that, he’ll get one of these messages:
Can't delete
default folder.
Press SEL
- or - Can't delete
current folder.
Press SEL
Version 1.4
Not publicly released.
Version 1.3 - July 25, 2011
Corrected USA band plan to accommodate marine channels 1 and 5 while preserving the frequencies available in CPU firmware prior to version 1.2.
Version 1.2 - May 24, 2011
The USA bandplan has been adjusted as follows:
Previous Band Plan:
154.650000 – 156.255000 MHz, 7.500 kHz steps
156.275000 – 157.450000 MHz, 25.000 kHz steps
New Band Plan:
154.650000 – 156.045000 MHz, 7.500 kHz steps
156.050000 – 157.450000 MHz, 25.000 kHz steps
This change resolves an issue with marine band channel 1 (156.050000) and 5 (156.250000) not falling into the scanner's bandplan.
Pressing left arrow key in SCAN mode now goes directly to Browse Objects mode, on the last object monitored.
Added option to show ONLY the RadioID's alpha tag for group calls. If this option set, you get just the tag (if one is available); otherwise, you get alternating tag / numeric ID.
"Show Radio ID" "tag only" Result
N - No Radio ID info shown
Y N ID alternating with found tag (if any)
Y Y Just the found tag, if any. If no found tag, just the ID
Fixed bug in search mode which was causing a crash if you pressed SKIP in Railroad mode.
Added "FlexStep" control to main Settings menu
Changed initialization code to address "freeze at startup" problem
Fixed backlight not turning off in KEY, IGNORE, and NORMAL modes when object alert is turned off (was staying on if the backlight was already on when the object alert went active)
Added TSYS index (i.e. "file number") to recording header
Fixed bug in priority talkgroup handling that would cause scanner to "lose" the current talkgroup in the Browse Objects, Play mode
Version 1.1 - March 4, 2011
NOTE:
Due to enhancements made in the firmware's use of the microSD card, it may be necessary or desirable to re-format the card using the PC software after installing firmware version 1.1:
Using the included USB cable, attach the scanner to a USB port on your computer. Leave the scanner "turned off" (it should be showing its clock display).
For better speed while reloading the microSD card with your data, you may remove the microSD card from the scanner, and insert it in a card reader on your computer.
Launch the EZ Scan Digital PC software
From the software's "Scanner/SD Card" menu, select "Prepare Scanner Memory/SD Card for use"
In the dialog box that appears, check the three checkboxes and select the drive letter that corresponds to the scanner microSD Card - this is likely indicated with a volume name of "EZSCANDG".
Click the "Format" button and follow the prompts
Close the EZ Scan Digital PC software
If you removed the microSD card from the scanner and used a card reader attached to your computer, remove the microSD card from your computer and insert it back into your scanner.
Changes since version 1.0:
Enhanced the speed and reliability of writing data to the Micro SD Card.
Speed up adding new conventional channels from library
Fixed issue with P25 encryption mute not always activating when it should be.
Fixed priority talkgroup function while monitoring another talkgroup.
Optimizations to "delete" functions in playback menu.
In playback display, allow for more than 99999 recordings
Allow decimal display of P25 private call IDs (aaa -> bbb), if the ID values "fit" in the 16-character display.
Changed default "CountryBandplan" to an invalid value so that startup code will prompt the user. Tuning code will interpret the invalid value as "USA".
Added "Set Bandplan" function, called at startup (before clock set) if the GLOB setting isn't valid (e.g. it's the default)
Small optimization to CCDump->file writing.
NOTE: The "PC/IF CCDump to file" option is incompatible with any USB serial operations.
