Kinng, thank you for the link. I will try that as well. Your post did not have that information when I initially replied.

it's not Eric's exe files
i compiled source files myself
maybe something went wrong
i do not know Qt, specifically install it for this case
maybe someone who has the Eric's original files to share it.

I did a search and found a link to a original download. All is well now.

If you have more than one Pro-668 is there any deal on getting them officially updated? If you get one done is there a way to copy it into another?

If your 668 has never been hacked or sent to whistler for the legacy upgrade then you MUST use ISCAN, ezscan is only for those scanners that have been made into a whistler ws1080 (it should have displayed the whistler logo on boot up when working) ...If no logo/your not sure if it was made into ws1080 (whistler) then I would start with iscan to reinstall the Radio Shack cpu firmware.

Since this is still a happening thread, I'll provide an update:

As I said all along, this was caused mostly by driver/connection issues and there is not a standalone CPU updater available for this scanner as there is for the Whistler branded ones. Well, there is, but I guess it enables the scanner to do too much, so some folks get upset. Being upset that people can't get their scanners working and try available tools is certainly something to be proud of.

Anyways, someone was nice enough to send the original RS Pro 668 software, which finally worked on the third computer tried.

Just a case of the typical connection problems seen with this line, only the tool to fix it in this case is unavailable due to what appears to be petty business decisions that punish customers who would otherwise be loyal to a product line instead of the intended entity, which could not care less. Yay for treating people right!

Nyscan, why would they treat you nicely and give you a deal? This is EZ Scam. Fork over the cash $$$. Gotta get back at the big bad shack by sticking it to you. They ought to be doing mail in firmware upgrades for free, to be honest. Shipping products with connection issues is not good.

There is 1 point you have not addressed. There was a time during RS 1st bankruptcy that RS was selling these 688's and other models for way under price. I believe at one time back in 2015 RS was practically giving them away.. There were people scooping them up and selling them on Ebay, Amazon, for higher prices. Whistler probably lost quite a bit of money on the 688s and other RS models. I don't think Whistler intended on all this happening and has tried to go about a decent way to resolve this issue, including the hack that was available.

There are probably more threads on this, but this is one example.

There is no such thing as "way under price." They sold them at the market price. They wouldn't artificially depress the price. If Whistler is selling above market price, that's their bad business decision. Whistler didn't lose any money on what someone else sold for a profit or loss. Give me a break. Are you for socialism too? Redistribute all revenue!!!

Whistler took over a product line and is treating a substantial portion of the owners of the product line like dogs. It doesn't matter the circumstances. If they need to offload it, maybe they should. But sticking it to honest people is not the answer. People spent a lot of their money on a scanner and just want it to work.

It's okay for people in business to lose money sometimes. Or even all the time. If you disagree, North Korea and Cuba might be suitable places for you as they operate under different economic conditions. And I suspect the EZ Scam revenue will be short-lived and short-sighted.

Granted, it's okay for consumers to get screwed sometimes too; however, I wouldn't expect the consumer to head back to the bad feed bunk. They'll go to a greener pasture.

It's a long ballgame.
