Well the rubber flap covering the side usb port finally fell apart. It bothers me having the port exposed, and I'd like to cover it to keep crud out. The thing is I use the port on an almost daily basis. Is a replacement cover available? Has anyone else encountered this and come up with a good solution?

After much searching the only likely candidate I saw came in on a slow boat from China, and I couldn't guarantee it would work based on the provided picture. So I've used a high quality electrical tape (3m) to cover the port. It's slightly oversized so I could make a small flap on the bottom edge, making it easier to lift for access. The top is long enough to keep the flap attached when I lift the bottom. I'm hoping this way it will always reseal in the same spot and prevent "sticky edges" from forming and catching crud. So far in normal use the small flap has not caught on anything. Time will tell if it stays that way!

:( Well, what can I say? Per chance, yesterday (Monday the 11th), my cover decided to let go at the all-too-often flexed point (for the cover). So now I am also in the market for a cover/plug of a sort to keep debris out of the connector. Suffice to say, with all those china adds, I cannot be sure of what they are selling. A couple of years ago, I had to repair two D/C adapters for my auto DVR's, and the plug is of the same type. When I purchased the 10 each eBay China replacement USB mini plugs (the point where the adapters wirings failed), the lot was 10 sets each. So, having 8 of them left over (until I can get a little rubber plug to cover the connector), I'll just snap the two included halves onto a replacement USB mini plug and plug it in (just removing and replacing it when pulling the cover/antenna/belt clip/card out to more quickly update the micro SD card). I'll just have to be a little more careful since there will be a 'plug' in that spot. Funny, all this time it was fine until I just read this post about a member having this issue... :)

I learned a valuable lesson several years ago when I had a piece of equipment face up on the tailgate of my truck. I was parked on a dirt road at the side of a community field. A big 4 wheeler went flying by raising a huge cloud of dust. Any kind of switch or moving dial on my equipment felt "gritty" from that moment on. I tried different ways to blow it out, but finally had to do my best at disassembly and cleaning. I never did get everything back to that "smooth" feel. Now I'm all for reasonable prevention!

How about putting small piece of black electrical tape over the square hole.
Easy to remove and tape is cheap.
Just an idea.
