Maybe you should make an additional copy and name it PRO668_F2.4.bin since F2.3 is already the current.
No, F indicates original firmware U indicates update. You can rewrite the original firmware. That was indicated in the app version notes.

I changed to WS firmware file to 2.4. When I ran the Pro668 setup, it updated to the latest version off my server and when it shows all the versions available, It shows firmware 2.4. Since I am doing this remotely, that is as far as I can test.

I just tested and it will download now, I broke out of it because I don't want to be the first one.

You may need to reboot your computer once you edit the hosts file. I don't see anyone else connecting after me.

Do not attempt this if you are not willing to risk bricking your radio!

Post 62 might be the key. Surprised he came back to offer this help. Maybe he's not a troll after all?

I shut it down until we can determine if this is a good idea or not.

I would like to see someone else prove this out.

Nosoup4u do you have all the files he has listed in post 63?

The scanner rejected the update. Said file may be corrupted try download again.

Looks like i can recover it as it attempts to update again but gives the same error.

I can only use the ws1080 EZscan software with the pro-668 now, because it is now a ws1080.So taking a screenshot of that wont accomplish anything.

No. A picture of your scanner showing the version screen. Hit the menu button after the splash screen after bootup. It will show you the version.

If say you dont have a camera, well... I dunno.

did you try recovering with the normal pro-668 firmware ? If you can get through that easily then you're pretty much open for tinkering unless something drastic happens.

The .exe files are the setup files for the software. Same as on the SD card. I can't see any reason to change those.
The dsp_0075 files are exactly the same, including the checksums. Seem redundant to change it.
Using all the 1080 bin files makes sense, as it creates a version history to match release notes.

I haven't analyzed the bin files yet, since I don't currently have access to my hex editor

Bottom line: I can't see any reason this would "brick the radio, since it clearly states in the release notes the updates can be written, even tho the scanner already has the most current firmware. This means the scanner should be recoverable. Still wondering how to force flash. I I knew that, then I am positive the scanner can be recovered. Retro. PM me

Yes. If we knew a way to rollback or clobber the existing firmware OR whistleSMack gives us a little more proof, then I would be all in on this.

I value my one and only 668 too much at this point to try.

I already covered this in a previous post.I would suggest to you all to use wireshark to understand real update process. Then replicate that.

2nd and half time you've dodged this.

At this point, for me its not about figuring out how to get the firmware on the unit. The question is will the 1080 firmware work on 668 hardware.
