I can only use the ws1080 EZscan software with the pro-668 now, because it is now a ws1080.So taking a screenshot of that wont accomplish anything.

Actually, it would, since the app vers. for the 668 is 2.3. If you take a screenshot of the 668 with a different vers. That would go a long way to lending credibility to this. I am a hacker from waayy back, so I have seen how to "fool" software, and I am also familiar with flashing firmware to devices not meant to use it, for example, using Pansat firmware on a Lifetime sat box. BTW, there are almost 1900 views on this thread, so you have a audience for sure!

At this point I am convinced you don't even need to set this up on a server. Modding the software to look for updates in a folder on your PC, should be entirely feasible

It reloaded the radio shack 2.3 firmware and is working fine now.

I think the files nosoup4u had got messed up. It should have updated to 2.6 instead of 2.4. If he wants to reload all those files again i would give it another try.

The key is to get Iscan software to download from your web server. This will not brick any scanner.Ive done 3 other scanners with my setup no problem.

Maybe I will try putting the files on my Linux server here at home but will probably have to wait until tomorrow

All of this work just to add a menu item? Seriously dudes.

Back in the day modding your scanner was a way of life. Removing diodes, cutting traces, adding resistors and pressing keypad sequences to enable military band, cellular band, up & down frequency converting and enabling extending coverage.

There were scanner magazines with modding tips and tricks. Some scanners could only be modified if it had a certain date code or firmware. Small wire cutters and a soldering iron was standard in your shack.

That would be alot more work than my way.You would have to decompile find and edit that function and recompile,i would like to see you do it.
While your at it why dont you rewrite the firmware for the scanner.

I have software that will run an exe file line by line. You can monitor calls, etc. I have used it to make registration keys and mod or reverse engineer software. Right now my laptop is down, but finding the code to modify isn't that hard. I also have VB and C+ compiler/decompilers. I used to hack satellite. People in the FTA community knew me well under another nick. Long live dishpro lol

The first thing the app does is parse the versions.php file to see what to download, so those files are needed:

You don't need to do all this work, just have to change USB ID info and modified INF and can force flash it directly. I may play around with around with one over the weekend when I have more time. May go deeper teardown one and actually see if hardware the same, like dvsi vocoder and DSP and ETC and not hardware coded. One of the reason the you counldn't hack a PSR-800 is they upgraded IC's over the year, by the time the Whistler WS1080 came out.

I am almost convince of one thing that the RadioShack Pro-668 may be the same as the Whistler WS1080. The only reason I am not 100% convince is the notice the BNC is the same as the PSR-800, so wonder if RF board and other components are closer to the PSR-800 then the WS1080? Then again the reason Whistler may have when with the dvsi vocoder is may have not been able to source that component anymore and in that case the Pro-668 may be the same as the Whistler WS1080.

The DSP files are exact, so I would venture to say the hardware is pretty much the same

according to the weblogs it still wants to download the ws1080 file

2015-04-08 00:29:03 192.168.1.150 GET /pro668/public/WS1080e_U2.6.bin - 80 pro668Public 76.233.130.0 Mozilla/3.0+(compatible;+PRO668.exe;+Version+2.2.0.310) - 404 0 2 10101

I am going to put both files in there and see if that does it.
