If a pro-668 has a failed firmware load, or wrong firmware attempted to load, can it be recovered by loading valid firmware with the software? Or is it a brick? How would I accomplish it?

The 668 is impossible to brick by upgrading. As long as it is not damaged hardware wise, it is recoverable. Use Iscan to load current firmware.

Im not familiar with that radio but what I see is that you have no firmware and the scanner is waiting for the files to program in the firmware. Have you tried Muskrats suggestion?

Did you try calling the number in your other thread?

With batteries in it and no usb cable conected if you hold the menu button and press power will that screen show? Or will that screen only show if you have usb cable connected?

I have not had the time to call the number, but will today. This is a different radio the the other thread. This one shows no CPU firmware and the updating message. I don't have this one, I'm just looking to possibly pick it up to fix and keep as I love the radio. This one apparently failed an update and the owner 'doesn't want to mess with it." I enjoy getting radios 'cheap' that are broken and working on them, but I'm no expert. I enjoy learning though, and this is a great forum for that as there are so many of you who do know a good deal about these things!

AtlasFBG2 - The one from the other thread shows CPU firmware, but I can't seem to get the PC to recognize it's there when it's connected - I don't really know what happened to it. I have it in hand. It does not power up on batteries, but does power up with USB, and does the 'Initializing uSD connection' then says 'updating firmware'. If I hold MENU when connecting, I get a similar screen to the one in this thread, but it shows CPU firmware 2.3 and the message is 'waiting on USB'.

Sorry for any confusion. Just probing for possibilities for radios to repair, or get repaired and come out cheaper than buying one. I just enjoy the challenge.

BTW, is there any repair facility available for RadioShack branded radios? I'm gonna try the RadioShack scanner help line at ScannerMaster today, but are there any others? What do the RadioShacks still open do with a scanner that has a problem now?

Thanks for all the help and suggestions, and patience since I am learning!

Joe
