I was just given a mint condition RS Pro-79. I was wondering what some thoughts were about this handheld? Are there any mods that can be done? So far my biggest gripe (yes, even though it was free, I'm griping)!is the display, it's hard to see, also no backlight unless you push the button and then it goes out in 5 seconds, anyway to make the backlight stay on all the time?

I Have one and it is a pretty good scanner if you got it for free. and yeah the backlight is a pain. i dont think their are any mods for it though i have had mine for 5 years now and i havent heard of any mods for it. unless someone has got one for it. otherwise this is a pretty good scanner for rural areas. :!:

Yea, it's not too bad, reminds me of a hand held version of my pro-2044 (kinda) anyway being free you can't go wrong no matter what.

I searched the web and could not find a mod for it anywhere, which is fine, it does all i need anyway. all I was looking for was a way to do something about the display.

I wonder if I could somehow hookup the lights direct to the batteries or bypass whatever in order to keep those things on all the time, they look REALLY tiny, can't see them draining the batteries all that much, I was hoping some "expert" would post a fix for this. If I get brave and attempt to fiddle with it and I'm successful I'll re-post, but I think I'll just leave well enough alone.
