I have one and really only bought it cause it was cheep and I had a employee discount. I love it for the air band. I use it in the car mounted on the dash next to my 2 meter radio. I dont have much here in the 800mhz/900mhz range other than rail and a few drive thrus so i didnt pay for waisted bands. I am happy with the radio

I just listed a PRO-82 on eBay. It is, indeed, a "basic" scanner, but a very good one as far as I'm concerned. Only reason I'm eBay'ing it is because I'm now in a trunking environment, which the -82 doesn't do. Although a "basic" scanner, it offers quite a few bands and features for a hundred bucks (Radio Shack still selling them for $99 on their web page.) If you're new to scanning and can be happy with "basic" scanning, you'll be happy with the -82.
