I was wandering if the Pro-83 would open the squelch on a Digital TX. I have a pro-96 and even though I know Pro-83 can't decode the digital audio and there would only be a digital buzz, it would still be nice to know I could SS for new digital freqs also. The main reason I ask is I know that Opto made a digital scout to find digital freqs and I assume by this that an analog freq counter can not find digital transmissions

not sure about it hitting on digital transmissions, but it certainly will NOT open on "Narrowband" frequencies - already tried it.

Digital - I didn't see any reference to narrow in your question (and cannot test.)

It certainly should! There is no reason it should not hear or count SNFM frequencies. The carrier the unit is looking for is the same as a NBFM carrier. If anything, digital would be suspect, as there is no carrier to reference. I know the BC246T works on SNFM transmissions.

The 83 will NOT accuratly do SNFM on VHF Hi.... it still has the old bug of nrounding to nearest freq..... can't wait for the 97 and 2051......I am officialy in the local RS stores quick dialer list now for programming/ "sorta beta testing" the new scanners as they come in,.. and am now an official freq/info source for locals needing scanner help..

While I was buying my 83 today, there were like about 10 folks there trying to get info on thier scanners, including Uniden Sportcats,... and PRO-94's etc,.. I helped em get things doen that most of the sales reps had no idea on,.. and then was asked how I knew so much by the only two reps there that had a small clue.... So I informed em of the years of scanning, the website here,.. and was put on a list so fast my head spun.... and handed no less than 3 job appies lol. Sometimes it pays to be a scannist eh?

yes it stops on public safety type digital (Astro, Ma/Com)

no it doesnt stop on CDMA,TDMA, GSM, iDEN type digital

yes narrowband isnt an issue, it DID lock on a 1xx.xxx625 freq when i was out warscanning although the audio WAS low due to this being a 5k bandwidth radio.

these have all been confirmed thru my experience
