Pro-83 Manual Listening Question

Okay, just got my first scanner and I pretty much know all the features and I've programmed my frequencies and whatnot into it. The only thing I can't figure out is just punching in a frequency and listening to it without storing it in the memory bank. The manual says to press hold, type in the frequency, and press hold again, but no matter what frequency I put in, it gives me an error message. So how can I do this?

The closest I've found to this is on page 43 of the manual, but it's for Direct Entry Search and doesn't just hold on a freq unless it receives a transmission on one. Which page did you see your info on?

Page 30 at the bottom and it continues onto page 31 at the top.

Go back and read that again. It is for Manually Selecting a Channel... in other words, a freq that is already programmed into it.

Ah....my bad. Guess there's no way to just put a channel in and listen to it without using up any of the memory then?
