PRO 84 computer 'programming'

Picked up a PRO 84 the other day on sale for $49.99, a steal of a deal for a 'basic built' scanner.

Anyway, I see that I can use my computer to help program the channels. However, according to the manual the cable needed uses a 9 pin serial connector on one end. Well, my computer is only 2 months new out of the box and it doesn't have a serial port.

I have seen on the RS website a usb cable that looks like it serves the same purpose. Is there any software that is usb compatible? Heck, is the radio usb compatible?

Any help / info / comments / suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

I don't mean to go off-topic, but with how simple the Pro-84 is to program, I wouldn't waste my money on any cables/programs/adapters or whatever you would need.

ScanCat Lite Plus will do that.

However, it can be a PITA to use.

I already own ScanCat Lite Plus and I would hand program a Pro-84.

For USB you need the 20-047 Radioshack cable. Our ARC83 software for pro83/84 is compatible with that cable.
